On Thursday 14th November 2013, 250 food and drink industry leaders arrived at unique London venue Vinopolis for the annual Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards, hosted by television celebrity Claudia Winkleman. Metro Broadcast, resident production supplier at Vinopolis, was asked to create the setting and produce the after-dinner awards show. Studying the floor plans carefully with the venue and client, Metro’s production challenge was to optimise the space without appearing to compromise on set, staging and production.
In order to accommodate 250 seated guests for dinner in the Great Halls, the staging had to be designed to take up as little space as possible. Knowing the venue extremely well, Metro’s producer was able to create a series of visuals which offered the client a number of options. A simple but effective 12’ x 8’ stage was decided upon and two, large screens were flown in to become the central focus displaying graphics and images. With a minimal set, it was important to treat the room with lighting and sound to tie the look and feel of the space together and create an identity for the event. Apart from the lighting focussed on the stage, pink LED up-lighting – in tune with FDF’s colour palette – was applied to the arches and around the walls for a warm and dramatic effect. Additional roving lights were programmed to patrol the room and individual stings were produced for each winner’s walk.
Metro Broadcast has been resident production supplier at Vinopolis since 2009 and works in partnership with the venue to produce a wide range of events including exhibitions, fashion shows, conferences, weddings and parties.
