In November 2014, by invitation of British Rowing’s Performance Director Sir David Tanner CBE, the most prominent names in British Rowing gathered at Twickenham Experience’s Rose Suite with family and friends for the GB Rowing Team annual awards dinner. For the tenth year running, it was Metro Broadcast’s job to design and produce the event – lighting, set, sound and presentation visuals – with a particular emphasis on video production.
In 2014, the team swept up no less than ten medals at the World Championships in Amsterdam; four gold, four silver and two bronze. It was also the year which saw an update to the team’s branding with a refreshed logo design. In order to acknowledge the team’s outstanding achievements and embed its new visual identity, GB Rowing Team asked Metro’s in-house video production staff to create a celebratory video using footage from the World Championships earlier in the year.
Project Manager Symon Veglio said, “We had over ten hours of broadcast footage to edit down into two minutes of dynamic, inspirational film which would capture the spirit of the Team. We wanted to create a film which included every single finalist.”
Metro’s film-makers also developed graphics and animation to reinforce the new brand elements; these animated sequences will be used across other marketing platforms.
The film was created in addition to 11 other 90 second sound and video ‘stings’ which were produced in relation to some of the awards. The remainder of the presentation was developed for the event using graphics, stills and other images.
Maggie Netto, event organiser, from GB Rowing Team said, “The added benefit of having Metro Broadcast as our event supplier is that the film and video elements of the Team Dinner are also produced by Metro’s in-house team. This has real value when it comes to project management, continuity in design and consistency across the whole event.”
