Macmillan’s Guests Take a Journey Back in Time at the 2016 Annual Fundraising Ball.
In November 2016, guests at Macmillan’s Annual Ball were invited to step out of the fast lane and travel back in time to the glamorous era of hot air balloons and steam trains - when the food was gourmet, the entertainment excellent and when ladies travelled in style. The Vintage Travel-themed event has raised a chart-topping £300,000 which exceeds last year’s total by a clear £20,000. It was our project manager Joe Beecham and his crew’s job to design lighting, staging, sound and visuals in the Savoy’s glamorous Ballroom.
Television comedian and impressionist Jon Culshaw was host for the evening.
Entertainment was also provided by Chivaree Circus, The Femmes, Swing Patrol, the Soul Brothers and The Faithettes. The event was also attended by national treasure, Barbara Windsor.
Metro worked closely with both the Macmillan events team and Event Prop Hire to recreate a real Jules Verne-like experience. You can view our 360 degree room shot here
Metro created the set back drop which was themed with a vintage map, the screen ‘bumper’ slide, and lighting which used gobos and other effects to create a retro journey around the world.
Event Prop Hire created the setting for the drinks reception which included a vintage transport.
In the ballroom, traditional floral table centres were replaced with a selection of themed props including globes and air balloons.
Auctioneer Edward Rising held the exciting grand auction which included skiing holidays, an African adventure and a glamourous trip to the Maldives.
Metro filmed the auction live and relayed it to screens positioned and hung around the room to create atmosphere and excitement.
